Pest Control Tips – How to Minimise the Chances of Pest Infestations

The Australian climate is a breeding ground for Cockroaches. They need to be constantly monitored
No one wants to have to deal with a pest infestation issue, whether that is cockroaches, rats, termites are any of the other pests commonly found in our harsh Australian environment.

Being informed, even of only to a limited extent can go a long way to minimise the chances of this happening and the impact it will have.
Some of the most obvious things you can easily do to minimise the chances of pest infestations are quick and simple and really, just plain old common sense.

For example, don’t leave things like chocolates, lollies, soft drinks, biscuits or any other sugar laden products lying around anywhere at your home or business. Just like most of us humans love sweet things, so do many insects and pests. Clean up after you have eaten. If you spill a soft draink, wash down with clean water until the mess has gone. Place left overs and packaging into a bin that gets emptied regularly. The less you leave sugar trails lying around, the greater your chances of NOT attracting pests and insects.

However, if you still find you have an issue with rats and mice infestations, there are steps you can take that are family and environmentally friendly. Rats and mice can be a real turn off. There is a reason you see so many cartoon films with people screaming when rats and mice appear!

Mouse traps can be an effective rat control treatment. Add attractive food scraps to the traps like peanut butter, honey or sugar to entice your local mouse and/or rat to enter the trap. Assuming you have set it up correctly, as soon as the pest enters the trap, it should slam shut, safely trapping the offending rat or mouse and you can then dispose of the entire rate trap or you can take some other measure to deal with the trapped rat before disposal. Most people prefer the option of getting rid of the rat trap plus rat…. rather than waiting until the rat has passed on to greener pastures, then extricating the rat from the trap and using it again. Rat traps really do not cost much, so it could well be a quicker and easier solution to just get rid of both as one item?

One thing you should do is look for potential entry points in and around your home or business for pests. Check for cracks in outer walls or gaps in door and window ledges. These can often be easily sealed with an off the shelf sealant from your local hardware store and will provide an effective barrier for some time.

It is not always necessary to contact a professional pest control specialist to help get rid of unwanted pests. However, given they are fully trained on the best pest control methods and have the most up to date equipment and pesticides, it is usually money well spent. Our company for example, offers a 100% Guarantee that we will resolve your pest issue – something you certainly cannot be sure of using your own or off the shelf methods.

You may like to try some of the electronic pest control devices available on the market. Some work quite well as a temporary solution. However, most clients tell us the impact is minimal and does not take long for the pest issue to return.
If you have an issue with ants, a pest treatment you could tray is a mixture of borax and sugar in a 1:1 ratio. This is a sneaky little combination. The sugar attracts the ants and the borax kills them. Sprinkle the mixture anywhere you notice ants and see how you go. If even that fails…you really should contact a pest controller in Parramatta as soon as you can.

If you have an issue with spiders, there may be a simple solution. Spiders actually serve a good purpose in that they help to catch other unwanted pests. However, most of us are afraid of spiders and don’t like seeing them crawling up our walls….or legs! Get a bottle of bleach from your local store and spray the walls and floors. That’s if you can live with the bleach smell. You will find this to be a good and effective, but temporary solution.

All the above solutions will help your pest infestation problem, to a greater or lesser extent. Unfortunately, all of these are really band aid solutions and not long term remedies.

We live in a harsh environment. The only real way to rid your home or business of pests it to have regular pest control treatments conducted by fully qualified and licenced pest control experts.

They know the type of pests you are dealing with and the best way to treat them.
Give us a call. You will be glad you did!
